For Baxter, painting has always been about recording observations of his immediate environment. He began painting on canvas as a 14-year-old, recording the view from the family verandah looking across cane-fields to Mt Warning [Wollumbin]. After meeting Sam Fullbrook in the early 1980s, Baxter became aware of the term ‘Colourist’ and soon realised he was also a ‘Colourist’. Baxter loves to use pure bright colours in most of his Art making processes. Experimenting with new techniques and mediums, ensures he is always learning along the way. Archival and museum standard practices and materials ensures the longevity of his production.
